We offer a 90 day training that will introduce you to 12 major construction skills. Those completing the entire training will receive a certificate.
1. Carpentry Framing
Safety first: Candidates will learn how to frame a building/house from bottom to top. Candidates will learn what tool to use and how to use the carpentry tools. They will learn what material to use, and how to use the material. Candidates will learn how to install roof rafters and roof sheeting, install roof vents. Candidates will learn when and how to install wind barrier or tyvex. Hands on.
2. Roofing
Safety first: Candidates will learn how to install roof shingles. Water prof sheeting. Learn the different types of roofing. Candidates will learn how to install roof flashing and step flashing, drip edge and rake edge. Learn when and how to install roof cement. Learn how and when to install roof vents and ridge vents.
3. Windows & Doors
Safety first: Candidates will learn how to install widows and doors. Learn how to install windows and doors in new construction and old work. Learn how to install window jacks, window and door heaters.
4. Siding
Safety first: Candidates will learn how to install siding or protective covering. Candidates will learn what tools to use and how to use the proper tools. Measure the material, and learn the proper material. What steps to use in installing siding materials. Hands on.
5. Insulation
Safety first: Candidates will learn what type of material, insulation to use, batt insulation or loose fill insulation. Learn how to estimate how much materials will be needed to complete the job. Learn what tools to use and how to use them. Hands on.
6. Drywall
Safety first: Candidates will learn how to install drywall/wall board. Learn what material to use and how to install it. Learn what tools are needed and how to use the tools. Learn how to tape and finish drywall and make it ready to paint.
7. Masonry
Safety first: Candidates will learn basic masonry techniques, how to mix concrete (mud). How to use concrete mix, where and when to use concrete. Candidates will learn how to build and install a foundation footer. Candidates will learn about all masonry tools. How to use masonry tools. Learn how to clean and store masonry tools. Candidates will learn how to lay basement blocks. Candidates will learn all aspects of installing a basement. Hands on.
8. Plumbing
Safety first: Candidates will learn basic plumbing. How plumbing works. How to trouble-shoot plumbing problems, how to repair minor plumbing problems. Proper way to install water heater.
9. Electric
Safety first: Candidates will learn what is electric, where electric come from, how electric get to a house/building. Candidates will learn how to trouble shoot an electrical failure, learn how a house is wired.
10. Heating
Safety first: Candidates will learn a vast overview of heating system, and how the heating system is an intricate part of a house/building. Candidates will learn how to safely operate a furnace, including the shut off, fuse and switches, plus properly flu vents.
11. Sub-floor
Safety first: Candidates will learn how to install sub-floor and water proof flooring.
12. Painting
Safety first: Candidates will learn the proper way to paint interior and exterior of building walls. Learn the proper tools, and material. Candidates will learn the safe way to paint.
13. OSHA 10-hour certification
